There is an identical painting by Corneille. In 1947, both artists shared an atelier on the Nieuwe Prinsengracht no. 2. Both friends painted the same canal view from the window, with a mimosa branch in the foreground. Karel Appel remember how special it was to have such an exotic flower, which they haven't seen again since the start of WWII and was given to them by a close friend.
